Rings that survive shock load and heat

Stacker-reclaimer rings, ladle turret bearings and converter rings share one problem: the design load is not the working load. Impact, thermal expansion and abrasive dust decide the specification.

Two different duty profiles

Bulk handling equipment sees impact and abrasive dust at ambient temperature. Steel plant equipment sees radiant heat and thermal growth. The structures look similar and the heat treatment does not.

  • Bulk handling: three-row roller, hardened raceway, dust seals
  • Ladle turret: four-point contact, heat-stabilised rings, high-temperature grease
  • Converter: spherical roller support bearings with expansion allowance

Thermal growth is designed in, not tolerated

A ladle turret ring at 200 °C grows by several millimetres across its diameter. The mounting must allow that growth, or the ring will be preloaded into failure within a few heats.

  • Radial clearance selected for the operating temperature
  • Slotted mounting holes where growth is significant
  • Heat-stabilised material above 150 °C

Wear parts supplied as a set

For equipment in continuous service the ring rarely fails alone: the pinion wears, the seal hardens and the grease lines block. We quote the ring together with the matching pinion and seal kit.

Send the equipment type and temperature

Equipment type, operating temperature and annual tonnage give us enough to propose a structure and a heat-treatment route.
